On the thread route – 23rd Domaine de la Lice competition 2012
This exhibition will present the winners and works selected during the 23rd edition of the competition, which is organised, with the support of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, by the Domaine de la Lice, an association of Belgian creative artists working with tapestries. Tapestries are a means of expression in their own right and are a part of several studies in contemporary art. The pieces exhibited testify to this exploration. Some artists examine the very process of weaving; others explore the three-dimensional world and its materials. Research into miniature tapestries responds to the traditional idea of large formats. As long as the basic principle of intertwining the threads is respected, tapestry can become sculpture, to be posed or suspended, and lends itself to boundless creativity. The most diverse materials join traditional threads in compositions that are rich in shapes, colours and meanings.
First prize ex-aequo: Hélène de Gottal and Laurence Meyer; special mention to Lilla Lazzari.
The exhibition will be held in the halls of the “Petit Curtius”, on the ground floor of the Hayme de Bomal hotel.
