Jupille – 2000 years of history under our feet

The year 2014 focused on archaeology: the 2014 archaeology project allowed us to discover the work of Belgian archaeologists and treasures of Walloon heritage. It is a good chance to (re)discover our roots.

The Grand Curtius is involved with this project through the “Jupille – 2000 years of history under our feet” exhibition. For the first time, the veil is lifted from the excavations that occurred in Jupille between 1872 and the present day. The exhibition presents a selection of objects that were uncovered during the various excavations (a vase with a bust from Jupille, a reconstruction of the tombs discovered in 1916 and a temple, etc). An overview of the research conducted by archaeologists will be presented, allowing visitors to better understand the interpretation of these historic testimonies. The “Jupille – 2000 years of history under our feet” exhibition highlights the passionate work of archaeologists.

The exhibition will be accompanied by workshop tours, during which aspiring young archaeologists will have the opportunity to carry out their own excavations and – who knows? – maybe discover their own treasures.

The “Jupille – 2000 years of history under our feet” exhibition is a “taster” of the new section of the Grand Curtius museum, which is dedicated to the Walloon Region’s Archaeological Excavation Service, in partnership with the Public Service of Wallonia.
