The SPACE collection
Launched in 2002 by Belgian artist Alain De Clerck, the SPACE Collection builds a network of European cities that are linked by a cross-border collection of modern art.
The pieces are acquired thanks to interactive sculptures that are placed in public spaces. When a passer-by inserts a coin into one of the SPACE terminals, he brings a sculpture to life and receives a ticket with a poem or a cultural gift on it. The money raised is increased through patronage and allows works of art to be purchased. In Liège and Maastricht, the first two cultural generators have already acquired 80 works, mixing different genres, media, techniques and artists.
