Grand Curtius to close on 31 March 2025

Due to a national strike, the Grand Curtius will be closed on 31 March 2025.

Did you know that the Palais Curtius was named after its owner ?

The Palais Curtius, after which the museum is named, is the most emblematic building on the site. It owes its name to one of the city's wealthiest figures, Jean de Corte (1551-1628), who Latinised his name to Jean Curtius.
Jean de Corte, known as Curtius, was an industrialist from Liège who accumulated a considerable fortune through the arms and saltpetre trade.
Born into a family of Brabant origin, Jean de Corte inherited various properties through his marriage to Petronille de Braaz, the daughter of a wealthy Liège merchant, including the Château de Waleffe, near Liège. He also owned or was lord of twelve estates, including Tilleur, Hermée, Oupeye and Vivegnis. To find out more, click here.
